If there is one area where you can make the case that Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry has made progress during his time in Blacksburg as head coach is in recruiting. Yes, some of that success is attributed to Fontel Mines who has been key in landing some key players, but Pry has also made up recruiting ground in the state of Virginia.

That was one area he had to fix, the relationships with coaches in the Commonwealth, from the previous head coach, but he is making big strides there. That is never more evident than the dozen recruits that are staying in-state to come to Blacksburg in the Class of 2025.

There are some players that Pry was able to secure commitments from in the class that were considered surprising. That has not gone unnoticed by ESPN which ranked the Hokies at No. 41 in their latest Class of 2025 recruiting rankings.

Some players to like in the class include Micah Matthews, who is listed as an athlete but is expected to be a wide receiver for Virginia Tech. Quarterback A.J. Brand committed to the Hokies over South Carolina and three-star signal-caller Kelden Ryan from Texas is another promising young QB. Running back Jeff Overton is someone who the staff is high on and don't overlook talented wide receiver, Shamarius Peterkin, a surprise commit last summer.

On the defensive side, linebacker Brett Clatterbaugh is someone to keep an eye on as well as some of the defensive linemen that are in the fold as well.

Seven other ACC schools were ranked ahead of the Hokies, but there is no doubt that this class is underrated by not only ESPN but other outlets as well. This season, Virginia Tech might need some of the incoming freshmen to make some contributions in 2025 and there are some players who could do that.

Virginia Tech fans might not be overly excited about the class now, but there are some players who have bright futures in college football and hopefully in Blacksburg. All in all, it could be worse.
