Cleary one need in this transfer portal window for Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry was in his secondary. Departures to the transfer portal and NFL Draft have left them thin on the backend with just Quenton Reddish, Dante Lovett, and Thomas Williams experienced with snaps.

Over the last eight days, Pry has several commitments for the secondary. On Thursday, he added his third safety with experience for 2025 when Isaiah Cash of Sam Houston State picked the Hokies over USC and Houston, while also generating interest from Ole Miss.

This past season for the Bearkats in his fifth season of college football, Cash had 68 tackles, 52 solo, and 0.5 sacks while also picking off two passes. He played in Sam Houston State's 31-26 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl last week and he finished with 10 tackles.

Virginia Tech assistant coach Pierson Prioleau has done a ton of work this portal cycle, first getting commitments from Sherrod Covil, Jr. from Clemson and Tyson Flowers of Rice at the safety position. Joseph Redish from Wingate and East Carolina's Isaiah Brown-Murray have also committed in the secondary. Cash explained to On3 his decision to come to the Hokies over the Trojans and Cougars.

“Having a position coach at VT who’s been in the NFL and knows what it takes to get there was a huge factor for me,” Cash said. “In my opinion their schedule is competitive especially starting out with two SEC schools. Their tradition and fanbase create an environment where I know I’d be challenged and could grow.”

There is no doubt that Virginia Tech has a difficult schedule to begin the 2025 season against SEC foes South Carolina in Atlanta and Vanderbilt comes to Blacksburg. Both are talented teams and if the Hokies are going to go toe to toe with those schools, secondary experience and depth is needed and right now, they are building it.
