Virginia Tech Football Rumor: Hokies After Highly-Sought Central Florida Transfer Tight End
By Scott Roche
Five days into the winter transfer portal and things are happening fast. Virginia Tech has had some key players enter the portal, but they have some good news in terms of retainment with quarterbacks Pop Watson and Kyron Drones coming back for 2025. Just who they are going to be throwing to remains to be seen.
Virginia Tech is losing most of its top wide receivers and running backs Malachi Thomas and Bhayshul Tuten. One room, however, that has some experience coming back is the tight-end group. With Brent Pry entering what feels like a must-win in 2025, expect the former Penn State defensive coordinator to be aggressive in the portal.
Virginia Tech to host UCF transfer tight end Randy Pittman
Virginia Tech currently has Benji Gosnell and Harrison Saint Germain as tight ends who have experience. However, with Drones and Watson coming back, adding another target at that position is a move that Pry should make among others, and according to Pete Nakos of On3, the Hokies are lining up a visit with Central Florida transfer Randy Pittman.
The 6-foot-2, 230-pound Panama City, Florida native was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2023 and was the 38th-ranked tight end in the class according to On3. This past season for Central Florida, he had 32 receptions for 416 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He had a season-high five receptions for 80 yards and both touchdowns in a 56-12 rout of Arizona on Nov. 2, which included a 48-yard Hail Mary touchdown reception on the final play of the first half.
According to Nakos, a source told him that Pittman is also lining up visits to Florida State and Arizona State as well as Blacksburg. With a big body that can catch the ball, he would be a good fit for Tyler Bowen's offense next season.
