The last seven days have been very busy for the Virginia Tech football team in terms of coaching changes, learning their bowl destination, and of course, the transfer portal. Let's not forget some players opting out of the bowl game to get ready for the NFL Draft. Ah yes, the transfer portal, that's where we'll begin this edition of Virginia Tech Football News.
Wide receiver Chance Fitzgerald enters transfer portal
One position that has had a lot of depth in the last couple of seasons for the Hokies has been their wide receiver spot. When Ali Jennings, Da'Quan Felton, Stephen Gosnell, and Jaylin Lane announced they were returning, it kept the depth chart deep. It made it tough for some of the younger players to get on the field, but with all four gone next season, that opens the door for some of the younger players, except for one.
Sunday, former four-star receiver Chance Fitzgerald announced on his X account that he's entering the transfer portal. A highly-touted recruit, he was facing a big spring season and camp next summer to earn some playing time, but he'll do that at another school.
I have decided to enter my name in the transfer portal! Thanks Hokie Nation! pic.twitter.com/erlIOXTFHK

Wide receiver in portal plans to visit Virginia Tech
With Fitzgerald entering the portal and the top wide receivers leaving Blacksburg, the Hokies are in the market for another receiver, among other things in the portal. One receiver, who recently visited SMU, is planning a trip to Virginia Tech.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Javonnie Gibson, who earned First Team All-SWAC honors this season, is planning to visit Virginia Tech along with Cincinnati, Oklahoma State, and Mississippi State. He had 70 catches for 1,215 yards and nine touchdowns this season for the Golden Lions. With Kyron Drones and Pop Watson both returning, adding some key receivers is a must for Brent Pry and his staff.
