Virginia Tech Football News: Layth Ghannam injury update, Jeremiah Coney moving up depth chart & home sellouts
By Scott Roche
After a bye week, the Virginia Tech football team will have a short week in terms of game preperation for Boston College on Thursday night at Lane Stadium. With an early game in the week, head coach Brent Pry met with the media on Monday afternoon, and here are some of the takeaways as they prepare for the 4-2 Eagles.
Offensive line getting healthier?
It has been no secret that the Virginia Tech offensive line has struggled this season whether it has been with pass protection or with opening holes for the running game. Injuries have played some part in it and Pry gave a positive update on Layth Ghannam.
Pry updated Ghannam's status and it was a positive one. The third-year head coach said that Ghannam has been practicing during the bye week and is on his way back toward being in the lineup. That would be a huge addition at guard for the Hokies.
Jeremiah Coney moving up the depth chart
Running backs Bhayshul Tuten and Malachi Thomas have been the 1-2 punch for the Hokies running the ball as RBs, but PJ Prioleau has been looking good. That was until he suffered an injury in Virginia Tech's 31-7 victory at Stanford on Oct. 5. Now, it appears that Jeremiah Coney is moving his way up the depth chart.
Pry said that Coney will be the Hokies' third running back with Prioleau out. "He's a good, tough north-south runner,'' said Pry. Coney may not get a lot of carries, but he can make an impact like Prioleau did when he was healthy.
Virginia Tech sells out all six home games
For the first time since 2012, Virginia Tech has sold out all of their six home games for the 2024 season. Remaining games with BC, Clemson, Georgia Tech and Virginia will be filled to capasity. Whether it's home or away, Hokies fans will support their team, regardless of their record.
