Now that the calendar has flipped to July, that means one thing, we are inching ever so closer to the 2025 college football season. Camps will open before we know it, and the ball will be in the air in less than two months. It was a frustrating and newsworthy month of June for head coach Brent Pry and the Hokies. Let's review the month with some of the headlines made.

Stunning de-commitment

Pry, who very rarely loses a recruit with a de-commitment, suffered his second in the Class of 2026 when Carnell Warren, a four-star wide receiver from South Carolina, de-committed from the Hokies and reopened his recruiting. He joins four-star quarterback Peyton Falzone as a member of the class who de-committed.

Warren has yet to commit to his next school, but he did visit Bill Belichick and North Carolina after he de-committed from Virginia Tech, and that would be a tough landing spot as far as the Hokies are concerned. It wouldn't be surprising to see Shane Beamer and South Carolina get involved, but losing a playmaker on offense is less than ideal for Pry.

Flip, flip, flip again

Speaking of Falzone, if there is one thing about his recruitment, expect the unexpected. After committing to Virginia Tech a year ago, he de-committed in November and committed to Penn State and James Franklin to play college ball in his home state. Then last week happened.

Falzone once again is on the move and has flipped his commitment to Auburn in the SEC. In the span of 12 months, he has gone from the ACC to the Big Ten to the SEC. If I'm Auburn and Hugh Freeze, I'll wait until the ink dries on the papers when he signs; otherwise, Falzone could decide to flip to the Big 12 before signing day. Imagine if he flipped to Deion Sanders and Colorado?

Virginia Tech recruiting is struggling

June of 2024 was a successful month in recruiting for Pry with the Class of 2025, but that hasn't been the case with the Class of 2026. After a busy month of hosting recruits, Pry has not picked up as many commitments as he had hoped.

At the time this article is being written, he has just seven commits, mostly on the defensive side of the ball. There are some decisions coming over the next month, and picking up a few is important for the Hokies, but right now, their numbers have them at the bottom of the ACC, which isn't good.
