During the winter transfer portal window, Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry was active adding several players to a roster that hit with transfers of their own and players going to the NFL Draft and beginning that process.

Players on both sides of the ball that have been added are going to make a big impact. So far, in spring practices, some players have been sticking out, and with the Spring Game on Saturday afternoon at Lane Stadium, it’ll be interesting to see how some of the players look ahead of summer workouts.

One player we know who won’t be playing on Saturday is quarterback Kyron Drones who will miss the final week for a medical procedure that should have him ready for the summer. The Hokies have several signal callers who will play and get a ton of reps, and one player that they’ll be throwing to is a player who could end up being a very big playmaker on offense this season.

Tennessee transfer Cameron Seldon has been turning heads in spring practices

When Tennessee transfer Cameron Seldon committed to Virginia Tech, he did so with an experience at running back, but a move to wide receiver could be just what gives Drones a playmaker on the outside. He had one catch last week in an impressive scrimmage.

"I have been pleasantly surprised,’’ said Pry after a practice in March. “He catches the ball more naturally than I anticipated. He's got really good speed. He's got a great build. He's got really good. You know, to this point with four practices in the winter program, he's, you know, he's everything that I thought (him) to be.”

According to 247Sports, Seldon was the ninth-ranked running back in the portal, but when all is said and done, he’ll likely end up a dual-threat both in the backfield and at wide receiver, where he’ll likely see a lot of snaps. Pry mentioned looking at him on the defensive side of the ball as well, but this calling is on the offensive side, and that is where the Hokies will need him to make an impact the most. The early returns have been promising.
