Slowly but surely the Virginia Tech football team is starting to get commitments through the transfer portal for the 2025 season. One area that needed a commitment was at wide receiver considering all the losses the Hokies are having this season with their key ones out of eligibility.
With running backs already in the fold in the portal with Terion Stewart of Bowling Green and Marcellus Hawkins out of Central Missouri, Virginia Tech picked up their first wide receiver on Sunday when Tennessee athlete Cameron Seldon committed. The Virginia native fills a big need and possibly multiple. Here are some thoughts about Seldon's commitment to Virginia Tech.
Thoughts on Cameron Seldon committing to Virginia Tech
Seldon fills multiple areas for the Hokies. He'll be a wide receiver, a spot that he played in high school. At Tennessee, he was primarily a running back, collected 224 yards on 48 carries and a touchdown in two seasons in Knoxville. At 6-foot-2, he'll be a big target for quarterbacks Kyron Drones and Pop Watson.
Seldon also offers flexibility for offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen with the ability to line up in the backfield and also offers what Bowen likes to do, use his wide receivers in jet sweeps and reverse plays. Jaylin Lane did that to perfection this season and Seldon could be that guy next season.
This is a nice pick up for Pry and Virginia Tech as it brings in a player who has the ability to make plays in multiple ways. The former three-star Class of 2023 athlete recently visited brings instant veteran leadership in the wide receiver room with the talented young core that the Hokies have returning.
Virginia Tech is putting together a nice portal class and Seldon can fill multiple hats for the Hokies and again, credit is due to Pry for being able to land in-state talent and bring it back home. Seldon will have a big job of replacing multiple play-making receivers that will be gone in 2025.
