It's been just four full days that college football spring transfer portal window has been opened and we already have seen some fireworks. Players who officially entered the portal when it opened on Wednesday have been lining up visits or in the case of some of them, setting some visits and quickly making a decision.
Virginia Tech has had some players set up a portal set up a visit to Blacksburg, including one offensive lineman from the University of Maryland. Terez Davis turned into a sought-after offensive lineman as soon as he hit the portal, and he quickly set up visits, including one for Monday at Virignia Tech. Well, it's not happening.
Maryland OL commits to Ole Miss before visiting Virginia Tech after setting one up
Davis took a visit to Lane Kiffen and Ole Miss and on Saturday, the talented 6-foot-5, 305-pounder committed to the SEC powerhouse two days before coming to Blacksburg. You might be surprised, but in the overall big picture, you really shouldn't be.
Davis played in 10 of the Terrapins' 12 games last season as a freshman and was very good. How good? He played 300 snaps, giving up one sack and a pair of pressures. No wonder he was sought-after, and why the Hokies were involved with him.
After last Saturday's spring game, Brent Pry mentioned that the offensive line was a position that came away impressed, along with the secondary, from the practices. Despite that, first-year coach Matt Moore needs more help as he is developing a line for not just the fall, but also the future. That's where Davis could have been a big addition.
There are other players scheduled to come to Virginia Tech over the next couple of days and hopefully Pry is able to get them on campus before they commit somewhere else before even taking a visit in Blacksburg.
