With camps opening across college football, we are a month away from actual games and the fun of another season on the gridiron. Last week, the ACC held its Kickoff event in Charlotte with all 17 teams making an appearance, meeting with the media.

On Wednesday, the ACC released the 2025 Preseason Poll for football, and Virginia Tech came in 11th out of 17 teams, and even more eye-opening is that they got a vote to win the ACC. That's right, a vote for the Hokies to win the ACC in 2025. What a shock that would be, and it would be some serious winnings at any betting site if you took those odds.

It should come as no surprise that Clemson was the overwhelming favorite to win the ACC this season, finishing on top of the poll with 167 first-place votes. Miami, with Georgia transfer quarterback Carson Beck, was picked to finish second, with second-year conference member SMU picked third. All of those schools, along with Georgia Tech and Florida State, who were picked fourth and seventh, respectively, picked up first-place votes with the Hokies.

This is a big season in some ways for Virginia Tech, especially head coach Brent Pry, who is 16-21 in his first three years in Blacksburg. An 11th-place finish has the Hokies on the very edge of being bowl-eligible, something that feels a must should Pry survive for a fifth season in 2026.

Virginia Tech faces a very difficult back-end of the conference schedule in 2025 with Louisville and Miami coming to Lane Stadium in the month of November, while they have trips to Florida State and Virginia that month as well. Having five wins at the end of October feels like a must if they have visions of playing in a third straight bowl game.
