This year, the ACC is dropping availability reports for each conference game, revealing the status for players who could be out, questionable, or probable. Since this is the first conference game for Virginia Tech, the first report under interim coach Philip Montgomery was released on Thursday night.

Virginia Tech football's first availability report of 2025 offers more questions than answers

Virginia Tech will head to Raleigh, N.C., on Saturday night to play North Carolina State at 7 p.m. on the C.W. Network. It will be the second game for the Hokies under Montgomery, who took over on Sept. 14 after the school fired Brent Pry.

The timing of the firing leaves a lot in doubt for Montgomery and the staff, as it happened before the fourth game of the season, which means anyone with a redshirt available can opt to go the route and hit the Transfer Portal. So far, cornerback Dante Lovett and wide receiver and punt returner Tucker Holloway have gone that route. Thursday's availability report hints that more decisions may be on the way and more changes coming to the roster in the not-too-distant future in Blacksburg.

There were 15 Virginia Tech players listed as out, including young players Quentin Reddish, Keylen Adams, Chanz Wiggins, Jeffrey Overton, Sherrod Covil, Caleb Woodson, James Jennette, and others. Of course, injuries could be the reason that some are out, but Montgomery has yet to release a depth chart for the game, and he's been rather quiet on the reasoning for some of the players missing last weekend's game. Read between the lines.

There was some potential good news for Virginia Tech players who are going to suit up, mainly along the offensive line. Layth Ghannam, Jaden Muskrat, and Johnny Garrett were listed as questionable for a unit that desperately needs any healthy bodies that are available. Wide receiver Takye Heath and linebacker Gabe Williams were listed as probable.
