When wide receiver/punt returner Tucker Holloway went down with an injury in the spring of 2024, it was a big blow to Virginia Tech. The Hokies were lucky to have players like Ali Jennings and Jaylin Lane on the roster to fill in for him.

After working over a year to get back on the field, he returned this year as a punt returner, and he even saw some snaps on offense at wide receiver. After Virginia Tech fired Brent Pry on Sept. 14, some players have had to make some decisions on their future's not only in Blacksburg, but also for their college careers. Holloway made his on Thursday.

Virginia Tech's Tucker Holloway to enter the transfer portal

Once Pry was fired, the 30-day Transfer Portal window opened for Virginia Tech players and after less than four games played, there was an option to redshirt and save a year of eligibility. Holloway has decided to do that and enter the portal.

The 6-foor-2, 185-pound Holloway displayed his speed a number of times on punt returns, taking one back 90 yards in 2022 against Georgia Tech for a touchdown. In 2023, he was named to the Third Team All-ACC for punt returners. That is what made his injury and loss last season so vital for a program that hangs its hat on their special teams.

The Andrews, North Carolina native had five catches for 82 yards this year before entering the portal. He joins cornerback Dante Lovett was the other Hokie player to enter the portal after Pry was fired and with still two days ahead of Virginia Tech playing their fifth game of the 2025 season, it wouldn't be surprising to see any more players announce they are leaving as well. This is one of the reasons why interim coach Philip Montgomery had not released a depth chart for this week's game yet.
