Virginia Tech Football: Brent Pry Gives Hint at Potential Transfer Portal Activity
By Scott Roche
We have two weeks remaining in the regular season for the 2024 college football season. There is still a lot that needs to be decided both on and off the field. On the field, Virginia Tech is coming their second bye week this weekend and will head to Duke at 5-5 looking to become bowl-eligible.
If they can't get win No. 6 against the Blue Devils, then it will come down to next weekend's game at Lane Stadium against Virginia. After, all eyes will then turn off the field activity. From the sounds of it, it could be an active one for Brent Pry and his staff.
Brent Pry gives potential look into transfer portal activity
Pry, who is in his third season in Blacksburg and has what a lot of people would consider a disappointing season, joined Tech Talk Live ahead of leaving for Durham, N.C., and gave a potential look at what might be happening when it comes to the transfer portal.
"We’ll have five to eight transfer spots based on attrition and potential guys that may leave the program,'' said Pry. "That could grow, but right now, that looks like where we’ll be."
That's not surprising at all. The questions that will come up now are who will enter the portal and leave and who won't. You have to think that Pry has a very good idea about who will or is considering entering and who isn't.
That's the current state of not only college football but college sports. We are in the NIL period and every school has a different budget. Virginia Tech, unfortunately, isn't as big as some would like it to be compared to other schools. If the Hokies are not able to become bowl-eligible, then it wouldn't be surprising to see the portal number of players in the program leaving, go up. These final two games are more than just about becoming bowl-eligible.
