Since James Franklin was named head coach at Virginia Tech in November, the Penn State fans have an unhealthy obsession with Franklin. Every move he makes and every decision that is made is commented on by Nittany Lions fans.
When it comes to recruiting, new Penn State coach Matt Campbell was on a heater in the beginning, but Franklin has been on the biggest recruiting heater lately. Yes, things started slow, but you just knew it would be only a matter of time before the commits would start rolling in for the Hokies.
Since late April, that has been the case. In the last six weeks, the Class of 2027 commitments have been going through the roof. On Sunday, Virginia Tech picked up two four-star commitments in a matter of hours, something that Hokies fans have been waiting for. That's right, Franklin picked up commitments from schools such as Ohio State, Florida State, Auburn, Maryland, and others.
Virginia Tech Class of 2027 recruiting ranking passses Penn State
Don't look now, but the Hokies' recruiting ranking is No. 6 nationally, according to 247Sports, and who is sitting at No. 8, one slot behind them? That's right, Penn State. Nittany Lions fans are awfully quiet now with their obsession.
Look, even the biggest of Penn State trolls would admit that Franklin is a great recruiter. Not a good one, but a great one. They shouldn't deny it. If they do, then they're just in it for trolling. You knew when the dust finally settles, both Franklin and Campbell will both have Top 10 classes.
Virginia Tech is almost five full points clear of Penn State in the recruiting rankings, and it'll probably change again before all is said and done. Would it surprise anyone if they keep passing each other? Both Franklin and Campbell were great recruiters. Nobody should be denying that.
Usually, when a coach is fired, the fanbase does very little to troll him at his next stop, if there is one. That hasn't been the case with Franklin and Penn State fans. The obsession is very real. It's quiet on that James Franklin front from Penn State ever since the Hokies got a commitment last month from four-star quarterback Peter Bourque. As expected, Penn State fans said that Campbell and the Nittany Lions didn't want him; they wanted the three-star Will Wood. Whatever makes you sleep easier at night.
James Franklin's latest heater moved the Hokies recruiting ranking ahead of Penn State, and as expected, Nittany Lions fans are quiet and nowhere to be found. Funny how trolling with nothing better to do works. I'm sure they'll be coming out of the woodworks when Franklin loses each game at Virginia Tech, and I'm sure when the Nittany Lions lose a game under Campbell, it'll still be Franklin's fault.
