If there has been another college football coach on a better heater than James Franklin at Virginia Tech, I'd like to meet him. Since late April, Franklin and his staff have been on a serious heater that vaulted the Hokies into the Top 10 rankings, according to 247Sports.

Franklins is in the middle of the most heated visiting period of the season and a vital stretch with the Class of 2027. Commitments have been piling up for the Hokies, and on Sunday, Franklin did something that Hokies fans have been dreaming of for years: he flexed his recruiting muscle on some of the top programs in the country for an elite recruit.

Virginia Tech picks up a commitment for 4-star cornerback Bryce Woods from Georgia

Don't look now, but the Hokies are having some recruiting success in Georgia under Franklin. Earlier this spring, Virginia Tech picked up a commitment from running back Stanley Smart from Georgia. On Sunday, another Georgia native committed to the Hokies, four-star cornerback Bryce Woods.

How big of a pickup is this? Woods picked Virginia Tech over Ryan Day and Ohio State, Bill Belichick and North Carolina, and Alex Golesh and Auburn. Just take a minute and reflect on one year ago today. Could you have imagined a wordl were Virginia Tech is having recruits pick the Hokies over the schools and coaches mentioned above? Times are certainly changing.

Woods, who plays at Woodward Academy, visited Blacksburg and committed on the spot to Franklin and the Hokies. He is by far the biggest pickup on defense this cycle for Franklin and defensive coordinator Brent Pry.

Woods stands at 6-feet tall and is a big-time playmaker in the secondary. There are some other recruits on defense that the Hokies are making a priority, but it's going to be hard to get another one with the impact that Woods could make in his first-year in Blacksburg. Don't ever discount James Franklin, but Woods is a major get and one that the program has been dreaming about landing over the last decade.

According to 247Sports, Woods is the 20th-ranked player out of Georgia and the 204th-ranked prospect in his class.
