When Peter Bourque de-committed from the University of Michigan in December, it reopened the recruiting for one of the top quarterbacks in the Class of 2027. Before he committed to the Wolverines, the Tabor Academy star from Massachusetts had some of the top programs looking to land him.
One of those schools was Penn State. Former head coach James Franklin and his quarterbacks coach, Danny O'Brien, were heavily involved in his recruiting. Bourque ultimately picked Michigan over several other schools, including Penn State.
Franklin would be fired from Penn State in October after three straight losses. He didn't stay unemployed for long, as just over a month later, he landed back on his feet at Virginia Tech after the search committee, formed after Franklin's former defensive coordinator, Brent Pry, was fired after three-plus years in charge in Blacksburg, targeted him.
It gave the Virginia Tech program the jolt that it needed, but with it comes success in recruiting and play on the field. After Bourque de-committed from Michigan after Sherrone Moore was let go, it only made sense that Franklin and O'Brien would get back in the mix for Hingham, Mass. native. He ended up committing to Virginia Tech over Georgia and Penn State, and what an addition it is turning into.
Virginia Tech Class of 2027 QB commit continues to thrive in Los Angeles
Bourque is one of 20 quarterbacks in Los Angeles for the Elite 11 Finals, and on Saturday, he was turning so many heads that Charles Power of Rivals tabbed him as the MVP for the day.

Just how good was Bourque, according to Power? He wrote that Bourque had delivered one of the better pro day performances we’ve seen at the Elite 11 Finals in recent years. According to Power, Bourque was on target with a lot of his throws and had great timing working under center.
It has been a long, long time since there has been this much hype surrounding a Virginia Tech commit at quarterback. Franklin and O'Brien have had success at Penn State, landing some of the top signal callers in the country, and Bourque is the first in Blacksburg in their first true recruiting class since being hired at Virginia Tech.
Bourque will be preparing this summer for his senior season at Tabor Academy before he makes his way to Blacksburg. It remains to be seen just how good a college quarterback the four-star will be, but it should not come as a surprise that he is turning heads with some of the elite quarterbacks from around the country at the Elite 11. The James Frankin effect.
