We are two weeks away from the 2026-27 college basketball season getting underway for both the men and women. Both Virginia Tech squads have undergone some roster changes from last season, but both teams added some players through the portal and in the freshman class. Despite the season being a couple of weeks away, recruiting has been going on all fall long, and one target for Mike Young and the men is set to make his commitment next week.

Four-star Class of 2027 forward Jayon Connor is down to four schools, according to Sam Kayser of League Ready. North Carolina State, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech an Charlotte are the schools the 86th-ranked player in the SportsCenter NEXT Top 100 is down to.

The 6-foot-6, 200-pound Connor hails from Lewisville, North Carolina, and stars at Forsyth Country Day School. He took a visit to Virginia Tech on Sept. 11 before stopping at Wake Forest on Sept. 18 and NC State on Sept. 25. He will make his commitment next Friday, Oct. 30.

Currently, Virginia Tech and Young have a Class of 2027 commitment from four-star forward Tyran Frazier on Oct. 7.

Virginia Tech women hosts Class of 2028 recruit

Class of 2028 guard Delaney Noll is one of the top recruited players in her class, and back in May of 2025, Megan Duffy extended an offer to her. She recently took an unofficial visit to Blacksburg, according to her Instagram page.

Noll is from Indiana, attends Homestead High School, and is currently the 57th-ranked player in her class, according to PrepGirlsHoop. Duffy is putting together a solid Class of 2027, and Noll would be a good addition to the Class of 2028 if Virginia Tech can get a commitment. Again, this was an unofficial visit, and it wouldn't be surprising to see her take an official visit at some point before she makes her decision.

Men's Associated Press Top 25 preseason poll drops with four ACC teams

Another sign that the college basketball season is right around the corner is that the men's Associated Press Top 25 preseason polls were dropped, and for the men, four teams from the ACC were in it, but only three of them will be on the Hokies' schedule this winter.

Duke, unsurprisingly, was the highest-ranked ACC school at No. 2 in the poll, right behind No. 1 Florida. The Blue Devils are not on the Hokies' schedule this season. Virginia, which Virginia Tech will play twice, was ranked ninth, followed by Louisville at No. 11 and Miami at No. 14. One surprising team missing from the Top 25 was North Carolina, which has Virginia Tech transfer Neoklis Avdalas ready to make a huge impact this season.
