After starting 7-1, things have gone downhill for the Virginia Tech baseball team. They welcomed Pittsburgh to town this weekend for a three-game series at English Field. The Hokies were looking to build some momentum as the calendar inches closer to May.
After winning the opening game of the series, 11-6, on Friday night, Virginia Tech was in the driver's seat to win the series on Saturday night with a 4-1 lead through seven innings. Then, the bullpen imploded and blew the game, 5-4.
It was just another in a long list of brutal losses this season for John Szefc and his team. It's one thing after another that hurts the Hokies late in games and costs them a win. That was the case against the Panthers on Saturday night.
Sunday was the rubber match in the series, and it looked like Virginia Tech was going to drop another weekend ACC series, falling behind 3-1 in the third inning. However, the Hokies rallied and took a 5-4 lead into the top of the ninth, and you guessed it, it was another blown save. Joey Baran doubled to play Trey Fenderson to tie the game. In the bottom of the ninth, the Hokies needed just five pitches to walk off the Panthers.

Hudson Lutterman took a 2-2 pitch and launched it just over the fence in left field for a solo home run and a dramatic win for the Hokies, who really needed to win the series. Trailing 4-2 in the seventh, Owen Petrich hit a three-run home run for a 5-4 Virginia Tech lead.
