Coming off a rough weekend in Boston against Boston College, the Virginia Tech baseball team was looking to get back on the winning track on Tuesday night, hosting Radford in a non-conference game.

John Szefc's team dropped two out of three over the weekend against the Eagles, with the most frustrating setback coming on Saturday at Fenway Park. With the tying run in scoring position, the Hokies suffered a game-ending double play with a strikeout and the runner being picked off third base. Honestly, it sums up the struggle for the Diamond Hokies this season.

Two weeks after beating Radford, 13-5, on the road, the Hokies completed the season sweep on Tuesday night in Blacksburg with a record-setting night.

Virginia Tech baseball records first no-hitter in 26 seasons

As is usually the case with mid-week games, Szefc used a bullpen game against the Highlanders, and what a decision that turned out to be. Five pitchers combined for a no-hitter as Virginia Tech rolled to a 14-0 win that was called after six and a half innings. It's the first no-hitter for the Hokies since 2000.

Madden Clement worked the first two innings for Virginia Tech and retired all six batters he faced. Ethan Grim, who was credited with the win, worked the next two innings with four strikeouts and one walk. Brody Roe, Josh Berzonski, and Danny Lazero each worked an inning to complete the no-no. As a staff, they struck out nine Radford batters.

The Hokies led 5-0 after two innings and then erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth before scoring two in the sixth for a 14-0 lead. The bats racked up 13 hits as Virginia Tech improved to 17-18 and will stay home this weekend to host Pittsburgh for a three-game series that begins on Friday night.
