After fading down the stretch last spring, the Virginia Tech baseball team is looking to return to the NCAA Tournament this year. Conference play was cruel to the Hokies over the second half of the season, and if they are going to make the tournament field, they will have a los of chances to build a solid resume in ACC play this year.

Last weekend, the Hokies dropped two out of three to Georgia Tech, and in reality, they had a chance to win two, if not three games. They took a 3-2 lead into the top of the ninth inning last Friday night in Game 1, but two walks came around to score in a 4-3 loss. Virginia Tech bounced back to win Game 2 on Saturday, 8-5, but dropped the third and final game frustratingly.

Tied 6-6 in the top of the ninth, a pair of walks to begin the frame came around to score in what was an 8-6 Yellow Jackets victory. It should have at least been a series win for John Szefc’s team.

How to watch Virginia Tech at NC State baseball weekend series

The Hokies will hit the road for their first conference series this weekend against North Carolina State. All three games will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra, here is the schedule,

Friday: Game 1, 6 p.m.
Saturday: Game 2: 3 p.m.
Sunday: Game 3, 1 p.m.

The Hokies picked up a 5-4 non-conference win over James Madison on the road Tuesday and will enter Raleigh at 12-5 overall. NC State enters the weekend series also at 12-5, but this is their first ACC weekend series and they are 11-2 at home and on a nine-game winning streak. It will be vital that Brent Renfrow has a solid start in the opener in Game 1 to set the tone for the weekend.
