Over the last couple of weeks, Virginia Tech football coach James Franklin has been on a recruiting heater on the offensive side of the ball. The Hokies' new coach has recently secured two running backs in the Class of 2027, two wide receivers, and a tight end.
The two running backs who are committed are Kelvin Morrison from Pennsylavania and Stanley Smart from Georgia. This season, the Hokies have Messiah Mickens in the running back room as a freshman and will hopefully be in Blacksburg when the commits join and sign. According to Rivals, Virginia Tech is trending for another Class of 2027 running back, this one from Texas.
Virginia Tech trending for Class of 2027 RB Javian Jones-Priest
Four-star running back Javian Jones-Priest from Arlington (Texas) Martin took a visit to Blacksburg, and it appears that Virginia Tech and Franklin made an impression on the 5-foot-10, 186-pound back.
“They set the bar pretty high,'' Jones-Priest told Rivals.
Those are going to be words uttered a lot under Franklin at Virginia Tech. As far as Jones-Priest goes, he rushed for 1,154 yards last fall on 144 carries and had 12 rushing touchdowns. He also had seven receptions for 37 yards.
Jones-Priest has a handful of visits lined up in the coming weeks and well into June. Virginia Tech and Franklin have some big competition for the rising senior. He is scheduled to visit Northwestern this weekend before taking a trip to Stillwater and Oklahoma State on May 29. He'll take a short trip to Dallas to visit SMU on June 5 and then make a trip to TCU a week later. He'll finish off his visits with a stop in Oregon on June 19.
After those trips, it wouldn't be surprising if Jones-Priest ended up making a commitment. Virginia Tech made the impression they needed to, but now they sit and wait while other programs get their chance to impress him.
