It has been a mixed bag of news when it comes to recruiting over the last week for Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry. On Thursday, he lost a commitment from four-star wide receiver Carnell Warren, but he picked up a pair of commitments on Friday and Saturday for the defense in the Class of 2026.

At the time this article is being written, the Hokies have the smallest recruiting class in the ACC, with the rising seniors, with four, two behind Wake Forest. Aside from the good news about the commitments Virginia Tech got over the weekend, another recruit released his Final 5 with the Hokies joining two other ACC schools on the list.

Virginia Tech makes Final 5 for three-star in-state recruit Cameron Hairston-Taylor

Three-star athlete Cameron Hairston-Taylor has released his Final 5 schools, and joining the Hokies are Louisville and Syracuse from the ACC. At the same time, the other two schools are South Carolina and Appalachian State. The 6-foot-0, 165-pound Hairston-Taylor is from Roanoke and plays at Patrick Henry High School. He recently wrapped a visit to App State.

Virginia Tech has a lot of work to do in recruiting with the Class of 2026 as the program undergoes some changes with Pry firing three coaches in December, then having offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen bolt for the offensive line job at Ohio State. New offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery and defensive coordinator Sam Siefkes need more commits.

The four recruits Virginia Tech has commitments from in the Class of 2026 are linebacker Josh Pittman, defensive lineman Kandon Gillespie, edge Kamren Johnson, and kicker Will Love. Along with Warren de-committing, four-star quarterback Peyton Falzone committed to the Hokies last June, but he too de-committed in November before committing to play at Penn State and remain in his hometown state.
