This past week, the ACC held its annual ACC Men’s and Women’s Basketball media days in Charlotte. Virginia Tech men’s coach Mike Young was joined by players Mylyjael Poteat and College of Charleston transfer Ben Burnham. First-year women’s coach Megan Duffy brought Carleigh Wenzel, Rose Micheaux, and Matilda Ekh with her.

Next week, the SEC will hold their media days on Tuesday and Wednesday in Birmingham, Alabama and there will be some former Virginia Tech players and a coach.

Three former Virginia Tech players and one coach attending SEC media days

Following the Hokies' elimination in the second round of the NIT at Ohio State last March, there was a rather large mass exodus out of Blacksburg for the Virginia Tech men. Poteat entered the portal, but he withdrew three days later and returned to the Hokies. That was not the case for the other players and two of them will be available to the media next week in Alabama.

Point guard Sean Pedulla will be attending SEC media day for Ols Miss, and head coach Chris Beard and new teammate Jaylen Murray. Last season at Tech, Pedulla averaged 16.4 points a game, 4.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists. He should make an impact this season for his new team.

Another former Hokie who will be attending is Tyler Nickel, who primarily came off the bench last season for Young. He will be joining new coach Mark Byington at Vanderbilt and teammate AJ Hoggard. Interestingly enough, the Commodores will visit Virginia Tech in December as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge.

On the women’s side, former coach Kenny Brooks and point guard Georgia Amoore will be attending on Wednesday for Kentucky. It’s going to be tough for Hokies fans to watch Amoore wearing the Wildcat blue in 2024-25 and it won’t seem right.
