In this edition of Virginia Tech News, a Hokies player in the transfer portal gave his commitment to another school and the wrestling team hosted their final duel meet before the semester break.

Johnny Dickson gave his commitment in the transfer portal

Virginia Tech defensive lineman Johnny Dickson announced earlier this month that he is entering the transfer portal, but he is staying with the Hokies through the Military Bowl on Dec. 27 against Tulane in Annapolis, Maryland. Before Virginia Tech heads to play the Green Wave, he gave his commitment for 2024 to North Texas.

Dickson is from Corpus Christi, Texas and will get a chance to play closer to home starting next season.

Virginia Tech wrestling beats Stanford

The Virginia Tech wrestling team closed out the semester with an impressive non-conference win at Cassell Coliseum against Stanford, a school that will be joining the ACC next season with SMU and California.

Virginia Tech beat the Cardinals, 29-7, to improve to 3-1 on the season and will return to the mat on Jan. 5 at Missouri.

Winners for the Hokies were Cooper Flynn at 125 pounds, Sam Latona at 133, Caleb Henson at 149, Connor Brady at 165, Mekhi Lewis at 174, Cody Howard at 184, Sonny Sasso at 197, and Hunter Catka at 285.

Virginia Tech men and women's basketball to host rare doubleheader Thursday

The Virginia Tech men's and women's basketball teams will host a rare weekday doubleheader Thursday that will begin at 2 p.m., followed by a 5 o'clock game.

The women will host William & Mary in the opener, followed by the men hosting American in the final games before both teams turn their full-time attention to ACC play. The men will play at Wake Forest on Dec. 30, with the women hosting Pittsburgh on New Year's Eve afternoon.
