Virginia Tech men's basketball projected 2024-25 starting lineup
By Scott Roche
When the clock struck triple zeros at Ohio State on March 23 in the second round of the NIT in an 83-71 loss to the Buckeyes, little did Virginia Tech men's basketball coach Mike Young know what was coming next. In this day and age, the transfer portal is a huge part of college sports, but this is where we are and it affects everyone, including the Hokies.
Young saw a mass exodus out the door that included some key players who were eligible to return for another season. Point guard Sean Pedulla left for Ole Miss, center Lynn Kidd headed south to Miami, guard MJ Collins and wing Tyler Nickel both left for Vanderbilt in the SEC, but Mylyjael Poteat, who entered the portal, withdrew three days later and announced that he was returning to Virginia Tech for his final season of eligibility.
Those subtractions forced Young and his staff to hit the transfer portal and hit it hard and the veteran coach was able to land some veteran and key pieces for the upcoming season to go around Poteat, who returns with the most experience in Blacksburg under Young.
With a large amount of change comes new beginnings for the first-year Hokies and just how things stack up when it comes to putting together a starting lineup remains to be seen. With that said, let's try and predict Young's starting five for the 2024-25 season.
