Next season, the Hokies are reportedly headed to another big tournament around the Thanksgiving Holiday.
Virginia Tech reportedly playing the Battle 4 Atlantis next November
According to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, the Hokies will be part of the Battle 4 Atlantis, according to multiple sources of his. Reportedly joining Virginia Tech are Ohio State, Auburn, Saint Mary's, VCU and three other teams to be announced at a later date.
The Hokies have some history with at least two teams in the field, Ohio State and Auburn. Last season, the Hokies went to Auburn as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge in November and the Tigers steamrolled Young and his team, 74-57. Auburn was an NCAA Tournament team last season and they are quickly becoming a major player in the SEC year in and year out.
The other team that Virginia Tech has a history with from last season is Ohio State. In the second round of the NIT, the Buckeyes beat the Hokies, 81-73, in Columbus, Ohio, and after that game, the mass exodus from Blacksburg began. In the end, the Hokies had several key players eligible to return in 2024-25 entered the transfer portal, but one player, Mylyjael Poteat, entered the portal and withdrew to return to Virginia Tech three days later.
This season field for the Battle 4 Atlantis includes Arizona, Gonzaga, Indiana, Louisville, Providence, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Davidson. That's another talented field for 2024 as it is for 2025 with the first five teams reportedly announced.
