Virginia Tech looking to flip four-star Cincinnati cornerback commit
By Scott Roche
When Brent Pry took over at Virginia Tech for Justin Fuente, the former Penn State defensive coordinator knew one way that if he was going to turn around the Hokies program, winning the in-state recruiting battles not only with the other schools in the Commonwealth but also the country.
When he was with James Franklin at Penn State, Pry knew that they could come into Virginia along with other schools, including Big Ten powerhouse Ohio State, and be in the running and even get some of the top recruits that the state had to offer. As he enters year three in Blacksburg, Pry has made major strides in recruiting in Virginia in the Class of 2025 with 11 of the current 15 commits being from there.
One commit that got away was four-star cornerback Jahmari DeLoatch who visited Virginia Tech on June 7 but committed to the University of Cincinnati 10 days later. Despite his committing to the Bearcats in the Big 12, that hasn't stopped Pry from continuing his quest to land the Chesapeake native.
Virginia Tech continues chase of four-star Cincinnati cornerback Jamari DeLoatch
Thursday, Virginia Tech continued their pursuit of DeLoatch when they sent him an offer flyer, which caused him to take to his X page to say that he's not flipping his commitment.
Currently committed in the Class of 2025 in the secondary is safety Sheldon Robinson from Woodberry Forest and cornerback Knahlij Harrell from Green Run. The Hokies were in on five-star Faheem Delane, younger brother of current Hokie Mansoor, but he ended up going to Ohio State in a not-so-surprising decision.
Prior to his commitment to Cincinnati, DeLoatch took a visit to Virginia Tech and according to 247Sports composite ranking, he is the 37th-ranked cornerback in the country. Whether or not Pry and Virginia Tech are going to be able to flip DeLoatch's commitment or not remains to be seen, but they are not giving up just yet.
