One area of recruiting that Virginia Tech football has excelled in the spring and early summer was recruiting within the state of Virginia. Currently, 10 of the Hokies 14 commitments in the Class of 2025 are from the Commonwealth and there are in the mix for one of the top remaining players in the class.

Four-star safety Kendall Daniels from Norfolk is down to three schools between Virginia Tech, Clemson, and South Carolina. He is in no rush to make a decision, but one should be made before the fall and the Hokies are very much in the mix for him.

Daniels visited all three schools before the Dead Period and was in Blacksburg from June 7-9 and the 6-foot-3, 190-pound Daniels who plays at Maury discussed his visit to Virginia Tech.

"Coach (Brent) Pry, (assistant) coach (Fontel) Mines, (safeties) coach (Pierson) Prioleau, they are building something down there in Blacksburg. When they first started, I don't know what they were, but they want no part of (losing)."

Last fall, he helped Maury capture a Virginia Class 5 state championship undefeated at 15-0 and they outscored opponents 864-152. In the Class of 2025, Virginia Tech has Woodberry Forest's Sheldon Robinson and Virginia Beach's Knahlij Harrell committed as safety, while linebackers Brett Clatterbaugh and Noah Chambers, edge Sherrod Henderson and Zeke Chinwike and defensive lineman Christian Evans are already committed.

Fontel Mines and head coach Brent Pry are building a talented class for next fall and they knew that recruiting within the Commonwealth was going to be a must if they were going to turn things around in Blacksburg and that is exactly what is happening right now and it's no surprise that they are all-in on Daniels.
