In this edition of Virginia Tech Hokies News, the women's soccer team battles back to earn a tie on the road, the men's team returns to the pitch this week and the football team enters their first game week of the 2024 season.

Women's soccer rallies to tie Monmouth

Soccer can be a funny game sometimes. The Hokies women finished their three-game road trip at Monmouth Sunday afternoon and after dominating the opening half, they found themselves down 1-0 at the break. Fortunately, it didn't take much time for them to respond in the second half.

A minute into the second half, Kendall DiMillio was able to run onto a perfect pass at the corner of the Monmouth penalty area and perfectly placed a shot just under the crossbar to tie the game 1-1, which is where it ended.

The 21st-ranked Hokies return to Thompson Field Thursday night to host Loyola Maryland with a 3-0-1 record.

Football begins first game week

After much anticipation, the Virginia Tech football team enters their first game week of the 2024 season. Head coach Brent Pry and his team will head to Nashville this weekend to play Vanderbilt at noon at Nissan Stadium.

If there is anything we learned from this past weekend during Week 0, it's that nobody can be taken lightly in college footbal. Ask first-year ACC member SMU when they let Nevada hang around too long Saturday night as a four-touchdown favorite only to scored 16 fourth quarter points to escape with a five-point victory.

Men's soccer returns to the pitch Tuesday

The Hokies men's soccer team returns to Thompson Field Tuesday night five days after beginning the season with a 4-0 win over North Florida. Virginia Tech will host UNC Asheville at 6 p.m. in a non-conference game before heading to Kentucky next week to play the Wildcats in Lexington.
