In this edition of Virginia Tech Hokies News, two more baseball players were drafted on Day 3 of the 2024 MLB Draft and the men's soccer team added to their coaching staff with the 2024 season right around the corner.

Two baseball players selected on Day 3 of MLB Draft

One day after Carson DeMartini, Wyatt Parliament, and Eddie Micheleletti were drafted, two more Hokies were drafted on the final day in Texas. In the 15th round, the Cincinnati Reds selected Jordan Little, then later in the round, the St. Louis Cardinals selected Christian Martin.

This season for Virginia Tech, Little appeared in 21 games and worked 25.2 innings, and had good control with just nine walks and 34 strikeouts while opponents his .288 off of him. Martin was sixth on the Hokies in batting this past spring with a .313 average, six home runs, and 36 RBI. He drew 35 walks and was hit by a pitch 16 times and scored 59 runs. In all, five Virginia Tech players were drafted while the ACC again saw a large amount of players taken overall.

Men's soccer hires Matt Watts to coaching staff

We are just over a month away from the men's soccer season getting underway and the Hokies have made an addition to their coaching staff hiring Matt Walls. Over the last eight seasons, Walls was the head coach at Nova Southeastern, a Div. 2 program. He also has coached at Delta State and Alabama-Huntsville.

Virginia Tech will open the season on Aug. 22 against North Florida and will play four more non-conference games before they open ACC play against Syracuse on Sept. 13. They will also play SMU, Pittsburgh, Virginia, North Carolina State, Duke, Wake Forest, and Clemson. Virginia Tech will play Kentucky, UNC-Asheville, Furman, Queens, Davidson, and Presbyterian in the non-conference.
