Virginia Tech football reaches out to 5-star transfer cornerback from Texas

Filing paperwork to enter the football spring transfer portal is over. Now it’s just a matter of time before players start committing to schools to find a new home for the 2024 season. There are several big names still available and over the next month or so, players are going to start committing to get ready for the upcoming season.
Virginia Tech coach Brent Pry has a couple of scholarships still available to use for the season after UCLA transfer quarterback Collin Schlee committed to the Hokies last week, giving them a very good backup should he be needed in place of Kyron Drones.
Pry has other needs that could be addressed in the portal going into the season at the offensive line or in the secondary. They recently hosted Colorado transfer running back Alton McCaskill in hopes of getting another back to add to a room that already boasts Bhayshul Tuten, Malachi Thomas, and others. Evan Watkins of 247Sports recently noted that the Hokies could look to make an addition in the secondary and it appears that Pry is trying to do just that.
Virginia Tech has reached out to a five-star CB in the transfer portal
Texas transfer cornerback Terrance Brooks, a five-star recruit in the class of 2022 per On3 sports has had as many as 27 schools reach out to him since he filed his paperwork, including Virginia Tech. Fellow ACC schools Miami, Florida State, North Carolina State, and California have also reportedly reached out.
Last season for the Longhorns, Brooks had 20 tackles, 13 solo, and three interceptions on six passes defended. In a 37-31 loss to Washington in the College Football Playoff semifinals, he had three tackles. In his first season in 2022, he had nine tackles and just three passes defended.
The 6-foot-0, 200-pound Little Elm, Texas native, is one of the top cornerbacks available in the portal and he would be an instant starter in Blacksburg giving the Hokies some badly needed depth. It would also keep current players in their positions and not force a shifting of positions.
