Chanz Wiggins

There was a lot of retention following last season and one position that got a large amount of retention was wide receiver. Ali Jennings, Da’Quan Felton, Stephen Gosnell, and Jaylin Lane all announced that they were coming back for offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen and quarterback Kyron Drones. It’s a deep and talented room, however, incoming freshman Chanz Wiggins has a chance to make the case to get some time on the field in 2024.

In December, Wiggins took advantage of a rule that allowed him to go to bowl practices in Annapolis, Maryland ahead of their Military Bowl victory over Tulane. Talk about getting your foot into the door a little early and gaining valuable experience with your future teammates. Wiggins is a dynamic receiver who could find his way onto the field next season as the 6-foot-3 receiver has good speed and can create separation from his defender. It will be interesting to see how he performs this weekend.

Saturday is going to be a fun day in Blacksburg and it gives the coaches and fans a chance to get a peek at what things could look like come September. A lot of players have a lot to gain on Saturday, but these three players have plenty to gain with a good showing at Lane Stadium.
