Last week, more preseason polls began to be released for the 2024 college football season with the ACC Preseason Poll where Virginia Tech came in at No. 6, in what was their likely landing spot. Monday, USA Today released their Top 25 Coaches Poll for the upcoming season and there were a lot of familiar names on the list, but one surprising team missing.

Georgia came in at No. 1 with Ohio State at No. 2 as expected. In reality, you could make the case to flip-flop those schools, but they will both be near the top when the season ends. The ACC had four teams ranked in the Top 25, Florida State (No. 10), Clemson (No. 14), Miami (No. 19), and North Carolina State (No. 22). One team noticeably missing from the poll was Virginia Tech.

Coming into the season, there is a lot of hype around the Hokies and rightfully so with all the retainment they had from last season's roster as well as some key transfer portal additions. However, Virginia Tech is third third team out coming in at No. 28, joining Washington and West Virginia on the outside looking in.

In the overall big picture, it's a little surprising to see Virginia Tech snubbed in the preseason poll. They return 21 starters off of a team that came together down the stretch last season to finish 7-6 with a Military Bowl victory. Kyron Drones headlines the key returners for the Hokies and head coach Brent Pry, but apparently, they are not seen as one of the Top 25 teams currently in the country.

You're not going to get bulletin board material from any players or Pry on not being in the Top 25, but instead, look for them to let their talking be done on the field, and at some point this season, they'll likely end up ranked, but don't be mistaken, they are not going to sneak up on any team this season.
