Wednesday the ACC released the 2024 Preseason Poll for the upcoming football season and Virginia Tech came in at No. 6 out of 17 teams with Stanford, California, and SMU joining the conference this fall.

As expected, Florida State leads the way with 81 first-place votes followed by Clemson with 55 and Miami with 17. North Carolina State had eight first-place votes, the Hokies had five, and Boston College, who came in No. 14 in the poll, got one first-place vote. Wonder where that came from, I mean, yes the Eagles have some key players back, but saying they'll be in the ACC mix is a stretch. That's not as crazy as Vanderbilt getting one SEC vote to win the conference, but it's up there.

Virginia Tech being sixth is about what you expected when the poll was releaseed, but it wouldn't be surprising to see them finish higher in the conference with a schedule that is rather doable in 2024 for a team that had a ton of retainment. This season, Virginia Tech will play No. 2 Clemson at home, No. 3 Miami on the road, No. 9 Georgia Tech at home, No. 11 Duke on the road, No. 12 Syracuse on the road, No. 14 at Boston College at home, No. 16 Virginia at home and No. 17 Stanford on the road.

This season's ACC schedule is different from last season where the three teams that Virginia Tech lost to, FSU, NC State, and Louisville are not on it and all three are ahead of the Hokies in this season's preseason poll. For the second straight season, Brent Pry's team will open the season with their four non-conference games, Vanderbilt, Marshall, Old Dominion, and Rutgers before opening ACC play at Miami on Sept. 27 before flying across the country eight days later for a game against Stanford.
