Virginia Tech Football: Hokies hope to flip in-state 4-star SEC commit
By Scott Roche
This is a busy weekend in Blacksburg in terms of recruiting for Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry. He is hosting a slew of recruits and even some that could be considered a priority. Making the trip to Blacksburg this weekend is a four-star recruit who has committed to an SEC school and the Hokies will be trying to get him to flip his commitment.
Virginia Tech hosting Caleb Williams who has committed to South Carolina
Four-star defensive lineman Caleb Williams, who is from Virginia and committed to South Carolina and Shane Beamer back in April, is taking a visit to Virginia Tech and it's safe to say that Pry and his staff will try and get him to flip his commitment.
The 6-foot-6, 258-pound Williams is one of the top recruits in the state of Virginia out of Matoaca High School in Chesterfield and has made a huge impact through his first three years of high school. The Class of 2025 lineman has 162 career tackles and 28 sacks and is coming off a junior season in which he had 95 tackles, 25 for a loss, and 15 sacks. He is the No. 9 overall ranked recruit in Virginia in his class according to 247Sports.
Williams picked South Carolina over Virginia Tech, Tennessee, and Minnesota back in late April when he made his decision, and making a visit to Tech is certainly a good sign. In the Class of 2025, Virginia Tech already has four in-state recruits who have committed and it is clear that Pry and his staff are making good connections within the state that were burned under former coach Justin Fuente.
This is not only a big weekend in terms of recruits visiting Virignia Tech, but it's a big month overall and it wouldn't be surprising if some decisions are made soon.
