Virginia Tech football to host four-star recruit this weekend
By Scott Roche
Thursday afternoon, the Virginia Tech football landed Georgia State transfer Montavious Cunningham and he fills a need that the Hokies have in their offensive line. Then that night, cornerback Dorian Strong announced on X that he was returning for another year in Blacksburg.
Now the Hokies get a chance before the recruiting dead period begins Monday to host another key recruit this weekend.
Virginia Tech hosts Kemari Copeland this weekend
Four-star recruit Kemari Copeland, a JUCO transfer, announced on X that he will be in Blacksburg this weekend and head coach Brent Pry and his staff get an opportunity to make a strong impression on the highly-sought defensive lineman who can also play at linebacker.
Virginia Tech is one of eight finalists for Copeland, who has three years of eligibility remaining. He was at North Carolina State earlier this week, while Arkansas, Arizona State, Kansas, Auburn, Tennessee, and Central Florida have offered him as well.
Over the final eight weeks of the season, Virginia Tech’s defense got better and better and dominated in their five ACC wins. Antwaun Powell-Ryland, a transfer from Florida recently announced that he was coming back in 2024 with his 9.5 sacks, and defensive lineman Josh Fuga also announced he’ll be back for another season.
If there is one thing that has been clear recently, it is that Pry is building something special at Virginia Tech with his staff and they are building it rather quickly. Getting so many of his offensive and defensive players to return, along with adding Cunningham in the transfer portal, the Hokies are going to be very good next season. Getting a big talent in Copeland would only add to a team that is turning the corner quickly.
Pry and his staff gets a chance to make an impression on Copeland with an opportunity to make another big splash in the transfer portal.
