We did it, we have made it to the 2024 college football season. Tuesday, we got our first Virginia Tech depth chart ahead of their season-opener Saturday afternoon at Vanderbilt. There were some surprises on the first one and here are some quick thoughts on the Hokies' first depth chart of the season.

Offensively, Benji Gosnell is listed as the starting tight end with Nick Gallo as his backup. It's not surprising to see Gosnell listed as the starter as he played well in the Military Bowl win over Tulane and had a good spring practice and camp. Gallo is working his way back from surgery and he will eventually make an impact for offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen as the season goes along.

At wide receiver, Ayden Greene and redshirt freshman Takye Heath are in the two-deep, while along the offensive line, freshman Layth Channam is starting at left guard with Braelin Moore at center and Kaden Moore at right guard in front of quarterback Kyron Drones. As for the kicking game, Jaylin Lane is listed as the punt returner for Tucker Holloway with Ali Jennings as his backup.

Defensively, sophomore Mose Phillips is starting opposite Jalen Stroman at safety and it's not surprising after head coach Brent Pry basically said that a week ago when he met with the media. The defensive line has a bunch of transfers and Aeneas Peebles is starting at one tackle, while Josh Fuga or Oklahoma transfer Kelvin Gilliam starting at the other tackle spot. Wilfried Payne or Iowa Western Community College transfer the backup. Jaden Keller (will), Middle Tennessee State transfer Sam Brumfield (mike), and Keonta Jenkins (star) are the starting linebackers.

As for kick returners, Bhayshul Tuten is listed as the starter and Malachi Thomas is the backup. We are four days away from kick-off and it was great seeing the first depth chart for Virginia Tech for the 2024 season.
