Virginia Tech football will play two weeknight games in 2024
By Scott Roche
Monday, the ACC announced the Week 0 and Week 1 football games for Labor Day Weekend for the 2024 season. Tuesday, the conference announced the eight weeknight games that will be played on Thursday or Friday night, and this season, Virginia Tech will play two, one home and one away.
The Hokies will travel to South Florida on Sept. 27, a Friday night, to play Miami. This is going to become a rivalry game for Virginia Tech going forward as with the new ACC scheduling model, the Hokies, and Hurricanes are going to be annual opponents. Virginia, who Virginia Tech plays each year on Thanksgiving Weekend will also remain on the schedule yearly.
Virginia Tech's other weeknight game in 2024 will be played at Lane Stadium when they host Boston College on Oct. 17, a Thursday night. In 2023, the Hokies hosted Syracuse on a Thursday night in Blacksburg and on Veterans Day last November, Virginia Tech traveled to Boston and rolled over the Eagles, 48-22, for their first road victory of the season which was a big win in terms of them finishing 6-6 ad becoming bowl-eligible.
Here is the complete weeknight schedule for the ACC in 2024,
Sept. 6: BYU at SMU
Sept. 20: Stanford at Syracuse
Sept. 27: Virginia Tech at Miami
Oct. 17: Boston College at Virginia Tech
Oct. 18: Florida State at Duke
Oct. 24: Syraucse at Pittsburgh
Oct. 25: Louisville at Boston College
Nov. 8: California at Wake Forest
Nov. 21: North Carolina State at Georgia Tech
The times for the games will be announced at a later date, but it's not surprising to see the Hokies get two prime-time weeknight games. They will be one of the better teams in the ACC next season and have a realistic shot at eight or nine wins. All three conference newcomers, SMU, Stanford, and California will play one weeknight game. Wednesday, the conference will announce dates for all team games for next fall.
