Monday, the ACC released the new scheduling model for the 2024-2030 football seasons with the conference expanding to 17 schools next season with the additions of California, Stanford, and SMU. Some changes are coming for the next seven years and we will break it down for Virginia Tech.

How the new ACC model looks for Virginia Tech

Before we break down the opponents the Hokies will play over the next seven seasons in conference play, here are some of the basics. There will still be no more divisions and the two teams with the highest winning percentages will play in the ACC title game in December.

The goals in creating this model were to protect the regionality of play regarding meaningful matchups, they wanted to mitigate travel, they wanted to protect premium television inventory, and continue without divisions. The ACC also gave each team two protected matchups meaning those teams will play every year and Virginia Tech’s protected matchups are with Miami and Virginia. All 17 teams will play each other, aside from the protected matchups, at least twice during the seven seasons.

Here is what the Hokies conference games for the next seven seasons,

  • 2024 opponents: Home: Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Virginia. Away: Duke, Miami, Stanford, Syracuse.
  • 2025 opponents: Home: California, Louisville, Miami, Wake Forest. Away: Florida State, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State, Virginia.
  • 2026 opponents: Home: Georgia Tech, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, Virginia. Away: Boston College, California, Clemson, Miami.
  • 2027 opponents: Home: Clemson, Miami, Standford, Syracuse. Away: Louisville, North Carolina, SMU, Virginia.
