It's hard to imagine, but the Vanderbilt football team, Virginia Tech's season-opener next month, received two votes to win the SEC this season. No, seriously, they did.

The Virginia Tech football team will open the season next month on Labor Day Weekend against SEC foe Vanderbilt on the road in Nashville. The Commodores are rebuilding in the very tough SEC, but some people think they are way ahead in their rebuild.

This past week, the SEC held their Football Media Days and there were a lot of stories to come out of Dallas, but the weirdest might have been when the conference released their poll for the upcoming campaign when Vanderbilt received not one, but two votes to win the SEC.

Vanderbilt surprisingly receives to votes to win 2024 SEC

The SEC will have a new look to it this season with Oklahoma and Texas joining and factoring in powerhouse programs Alabama, Ole Miss, LSU, Georgia, Tennessee, and Missouri, it's a tough conference to navigate to compete and win in, but for two voters, Vanderbilt has the horses to do it.

Honestly, this is something that nobody can admit they saw coming. Clark Lea has a rebuilding project in front of him against some of the best teams in the conference, but they received the same amount of votes to win the SEC this season as LSU and one more than South Carolina.

Georgia, Texas, Alabama, and Ole Miss finished ahead of Vanderbilt in terms of votes to win the conference and the Bulldogs won it by a fairly huge margin compared to other schools.

Ok, so just how much stock do you put into preseason polls? Not a lot. Do all the voters take the voting seriously? Apparently not. Look, I'm, not saying that Vanderbilt can't win the SEC as anything is possible, but when you look at the votes as to who is favored to win the SEC, Vanderbilt does not come to mind right away.

For the record, Vanderbilt was picked to finish 16th out of 16 teams in the order of finish, which makes the two votes they got even more stunning. Virginia Tech will find out first just how good the Commodores are going to be in 2024.
