National College Football writer has a strong take for the Virginia Tech football team in 2024
By Scott Roche
After the strong finish to the 2023 season, there is a lot to like about what the 2024 Virginia Tech football season could look like. The Hokies return a slew of talent on both sides of the ball, including quarterback Kyron Drones, running back Bhayshul Tuten, and four wide receivers.
On the defensive side of the ball, Virginia Tech brings back Antwaun Powell-Ryland along the line and Mansoor Delane and Dorian Strong in the secondary. Head coach Brent Pry landed three key defensive linemen in the transfer portal to make them one of the better units next season in the ACC.
It appears that the hype around the Hokies for next fall is spreading through to national college football writers. CBS Sports thinks Virginia Tech is one of 10 teams that they think can crack the Top 25 and make some noise.
"Brent Pry will benefit from an increasing rarity to kick off 2024. The Hokies' second-year coach has -- as of now -- all 11 offensive starters returning. That includes QB Kyron Drones, a name so 2024 it is waiting for an NIL deal. The Hokies averaged 43 points per game in their last four contests. Pry added three defensive linemen from the portal. If you want a sneaky good pick for the ACC, go with the Hokies. "

Virginia Tech should be a Top 25 team over the summer when the first rankings are released. Their key players have at least one season under their belt in Blacksburg with Pry and his staff and now they get a full offseason to prepare for 2024, which should put them way ahead of schedule than they were when the 2023 season began.
As far as being a dark horse in the ACC, that is absolutely true. Their ACC schedule is nothing that they can’t get through. Miami and Clemson are the two toughest on the schedule. A cross-country trip to Stanford won’t be easy and a trip to Syracuse won’t be easy, but both are a very winnable for the Hokies.
It’s safe to say that CBS Sports is thinking along the same lines as Virginia Tech fans when it comes to the 2024 season.
