Carter Bahns of 247Sports named Virginia Tech football's 2024 trap game and it should come as no surprise as to who it is.

The ACC will gather next week in Charlotte for their Football Media Days and soon after that, camps will begin for the 2024 season. Virginia Tech will open the season with their four non-conference games before they begin conference play.

When the Hokies begin ACC play, they will do so in South Florida on Sept. 27 against Miami. This team added key players through the transfer portal this offseason, including quarterback Cam Ward from Washington State and running back Damien Martinez from Oregon State. That will be a big game for both in their ACC opener and it is a week before Virginia Tech plays what one national writer deems as their trap game.

247Sports reveals Virginia Tech's 2024 trap game

Carter Bahns of 247Sports named each ACC team's trap game for the upcoming season and for Virginia Tech, it should come as no surprise that he deemed their trap game at home against Rutgers on Sept. 21, six days before playing the Hurricanes.

"On the doorstep of Virginia Tech's biggest game of the season's first half — a road trip to Miami — lies a sneakily difficult home test against Rutgers. This Scarlet Knights squad generated rumblings all offseason after Greg Schiano continued to build his program back into a physically imposing, tough out in the Big Ten. It has a strong defense capable of containing Hokies quarterback Kyron Drones and a running game, featuring star ballcarrier Kyle Monangai, that can wear opponents down. If even one ounce of Virginia Tech's focus moves on to the Sept. 28 showdown with the Hurricanes, Rutgers will leave Lane Stadium in celebratory fashion."

Virginia Tech got a first-hand look at the Scarlet Knights last September after a 35-16 loss on the road. Monangai gashed Chris Marve's defense for 143 yards on 16 carries and three touchdowns. He is back for another season and if the Hokies are going to pick up a win this year, they will have to figure out a way to stop him, as well as not be looking past this game to Miami.

According Bahns, Virginia Tech is the trap game opponent for Miami and Clemson this season.
