National CFB writer appears to be jumping on the Virginia Tech football hype for 2024
By Scott Roche
Expectations are high in Blacksburg ahead of the 2024 college football season and rightfully so. Following a season that saw Virginia Tech finish 7-6 with a Military Bowl win over Tulane and winning five of their final eight games in the ACC has set them up for success for the upcoming season.
Another reason for excitement around the Hokies is because of all the retainment that head coach Brent Pry got, along with key transfer additions. Quarterback Kyron Drones, running back Bhayshul Tuten, and a core of wide receivers come back on offense while a majority of the defense is back including Dorian Strong in the secondary, while transfer Aeneas Peebles along the defensive line, and linebacker Sam Brumfield are just some of the transfer additions that could step in a make a contribution right away. One national college football writer thinks they can take the next step under Pry this fall.
Virginia Tech is an "intriguing" team to one CFB writer
Chip Patterson of CBS Sports thinks that Virginia Tech is going to be one of the more intriguing teams in the ACC in 2024 and why not? Along with retainment and the transfer portal additions, the Hokies are clearly ready to take the next step under Pry to go from 3-8, 7-6, to eight, nine, or maybe even 10 wins next fall. Patterson thinks there is something around the program that they haven't had in a while.
" They've got the quarterback set with Kyron Drones, they've got an active and aggressive defense that makes its presence known and a good roster blend of transfer portal additions and younger players from Pry's first recruiting classes. It's been a while since you've been able to say Virginia Tech has all those things in line, but the Hokies have their house in order and are ready to make some noise in the ACC this fall. "
- Chip Patterson
The Hokies are set up and set up very well to make some serious noise in the ACC in 2024 and they have a very doable ACC schedule that can have them in contention with Florida State, Clemson, Miami, Louisville, and the other top teams in the conference. They have a QB that picked up in the Spring Game (I know, it’s just a Spring Game) where he left off in the bowl victory over Tulane and appears to be in store for a huge season.
Offense, defense, and even special teams, Virginia Tech is set up well for 2024 and ready to take a potential giant step in Pry’s third season and the rest of the country and college football writers are catching on. Virginia Tech taking the next step under Pry would not be an overreaction for this upcoming season.
