For the first time in some time, there is a ton of excitement surrounding Virginia Tech football ahead of the 2024 season, and honestly, rightfully so. Following a 2023 second season under Brent Pry, the Hokies had a ton of retainment, brought back most of their starters, and addressed some needs they had on both sides of the ball in the transfer portal.

All of that along with a doable 12-game schedule as Virginia Tech fans dreaming of a nine or 10-win fall in Blacksburg. The opinions on the Hokies for the upcoming season around the country have been mixed and while some national college football writers and analysts are jumping on the hype train, not everyone is. One of the latest is Pro Football Focus College analyst Max Chadwick.

Max Chadwick thinks people are sleeping on Virginia Tech in the ACC for 2024

PFF College writer Max Chadwick thinks that people are sleeping on Virginia Tech when it comes to sleeper teams in the ACC for the 2024 season.

Sure, there are plenty of questions still surrounding the Hokies for the new season in just over two months, but if things fall into place, it could be a special season in Year 3 of Brent Pry. Quarterback Kyron Drones and running back Bhayshul Tuten will lead an offense that also returns four key wide receivers. On the defensive side, Antwaun Powell-Ryland along the line, and Mansoor Delane and Dorian Strong return to anchor the secondary with key defensive line transfer portal additions.

One of the bigger why expectations are up in Blacksburg is the schedule that Virginia Tech has. There is no Florida State, Louisville, or North Carolina State, the three ACC teams to beat the Hokies last fall and their top two games are at Miami and Clemson, although a November road game at Syracuse is going to be a lot tougher than some people think. Let's not overlook a September visit from Rutgers in Tech's final non-conference game before ACC play begins.

People can sleep on Virginia Tech, but taking over eight wins at most betting sites is a rather good bet as there is a path to nine wins and maybe even 10 if things fall right. Regardless, the Hokies are expected to be a player in the ACC and it would be disappointing if they are not at the end of the season.
