Megan Duffy explains what was a huge deciding factor in coming to Virginia Tech
By Scott Roche
It’s never easy replacing someone who has built something so strong. When former Virginia Tech women’s basketball coach Kenny Brooks left in late March to take the same position at the University of Kentucky two days after the Hokies were eliminated in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, athletic director Whit Babcock began his search to find a replacement.
His search took nearly a week and amid speculation and rumors, he announced that he had hired Marquette coach Megan Duffy as Brooks’ replacement. Brooks spoke with Kelly Gramlich on the Gramlich and MacLain podcast and revealed what was one of her deciding factors in accepting the job in Blacksburg.
Megan Duffy reveals a major factor in accepting the Virginia Tech job
On an episode of the Gramlich & MacLain podcast, Duffy spoke about what into deciding to come to Virginia Tech and leave behind what she had built with Marquette in the Big East after taking the Golden Eagles to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four years.
Virginia Tech fans have embraced Duffy and she is off to a good start with retainment for the 2024-25 season. Carleigh Wenzel, Matilda Ekh, Carys Baker, Rose Micheaux, and Samyha Suffren are all returning and she has picked up a four-star recruit in Katie Sears in the Class of 2025.
Duffy is on her way to building something special in Blacksburg and there is no doubt she’ll keep the Hokies competitive this upcoming season in the ACC and build it up to be contenders in the future. If there is one thing Duffy can count on, it’s full support through the good and bad times from Hokie Nation.
