Virginia Tech wing announces that she's coming back to Blacksburg for the 2024-25 season

Since the Virginia Tech women's basketball team was eliminated in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in March by Baylor, there has been some turnover with the coaching staff and roster.

By now, you know that Kenny Brooks left Blacksburg for Kentucky, while players Georgia Amoore and Clara Strack also followed by going through the transfer portal. That should not come as a big surprise.

Just over a week after Brooks left, Virginia Tech athletic director Whit Babcock named Megan Duffy his next women's basketball coach. The former Marquette coach was announced 10 days after Brooks departed for Lexington and there was a lot of questions as to which players other than Amoore and Strack would also leave.

Samyha Suffren entered the transfer portal but has since withdrawn and announced Friday she was coming back to Virginia Tech for the 2024-25 season to play for Duffy. Guard Carleigh Wenzel also announced that she too was coming back and Saturday, a third young piece of the roster announced that she too will return to play for Duffy and the new coaching staff next season.

Carys Baker announces she returning to Virginia Tech for the 2024-25 season

Freshman Carys Baker, daughter of former NBA player Vin, announced on Instagram that she'll be back for next season in Blacksburg.

Baker is a good player for Duffy to have come back. The wing came off the bench for Brooks this past season and showed some flashes of shooting the ball that she could be a key asset that can score, but she also struggled at times, mainly in the ACC Tournament she played more. She sees the floor well and can be a nice player for next season's team.

Duffy has got some key retainment for next season and still has an opportunity to add more players through the transfer portal as she builds her roster for her first season at Virginia Tech.
