Virginia Tech guard Sean Pedulla announces his career in Blacksburg is over
By Scott Roche
Less than a week after the Virginia Tech men's basketball team was eliminated in the second round of the NIT at Ohio State, Hokies point guard Sean Pedulla entered the transfer portal. When the Oklahoma native entered, he left the door open to return to Blacksburg for his final season.
Tuesday night, he closed that door shut.
Pedulla took to X to thank Virginia Tech fans for accepting him and welcoming him to Blacksburg and that he will not be returning for his final season of college basketball. The offseason has turned into a complete roster make over and the Edmond, Oklahoma native leaving should really come as a surprise.
This past season for the Hokies, Pedulla averaged 16.4 points a game, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.6 assists while shooting 42.4%. As the season went along, he overcame turnover issues, which head coach Mike Young defended and stuck with him, and became a player who was able to get downhill to the basket, finish and find bigs Lynn Kidd and Mylyjael Poteat for easy baskets. He also began shooting the ball better from behind the arc.
Since entering the portal, Pedulla has drawn interest from Kentucky (before John Calipari left for Arkansas) and he has a visit scheduled this week at Alabama. He has also taken a visit to Oklahoma.
Pedulla should be considered the biggest loss for Young for the 2024-25 season, but the veteran coach has been busy putting together a roster for next season and he already has commitments from Ben Burnham from the College of Charleston, Rodney Brown from California, and UTSA's Jordan Ivy-Curry who announced shortly after committing to the Hokies that he's going to enter the NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility.
It will be interesting to see where Pedulla ends up for his final season and that announcement should be coming soon.
