Former Virginia Tech forward Keve Aluma stars again in Las Vegas Summer League
By Scott Roche
After a strong showing in the Utah Summer League last week for the Philadelphia 76ers, former Virginia Tech forward Keve Aluma picked up in Las Vegas where he left off in Utah.
In Philadelphia's first game in the Las Vegas Summer League Saturday, Kulma had another strong game for the 76ers with 19 points and eight rebounds in a 94-81 victory over the Detroit Pistons. In just over 22 minutes, the former Hokie was a sizzling 8-for-10 from the field, a perfect 2-for-2 from, behind the arc, and five of his rebounds were on the offensive end.
He was able to get to the basket on the Pistons and finish, including a three-point play. He finished three points behind teammate Ricky Council who scored 22 points and hauled down six rebounds and Jeff Dowtin chipped in with 18 points, five rebounds, and eight assists.
This Las Vegas Summer League could be a huge stepping stone for Aluma as he looks to have an NBA career as he looks for a roster spot with Philadelphia. If he's not able to stay with the 76ers, he's certainly making a name for himself with the rest of the league watching closely in Utah and Las Vegas. Aluma and Philadelphia will play again on Monday night at 8:30 against the Portland Trail Blazers on NBA TV.
Another former Virginia Tech player, Hunter Cattoor, struggling in his first game with the Cleveland Cavaliers missing all four attempts from the field, and all were behind the 3-point line. He did make one free throw for his only point in a 106-79 loss to the Orlando Magic. Cattoor and the Cavs return to action this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. on NBA TV against the Milwaukee Bucks.
