We are three months away from the beginning of the 2024 college football season and on Thursday, Virginia Tech announced the start times for five of their games, three non-conference games, and two ACC games.

This season, the Hokies will play two of their 12 games during the week, opening ACC play at Miami on a Friday night, then their first home ACC game three weeks later on a Thursday night at Lane Stadium against first-year coach Bill O'Brien and Boston College.

Virginia Tech announces start times for five 2024 games

One quick takeaway from the schedule time announcement is that Virginia Tech will begin the season playing two primetime games, as mentioned above during the week against Miami and Boston College. Three of their four non-conference game times were also announced.

  • Sat. Aug. 31: at Vanderbilt, Noon, ESPN
  • Sat. Sept. 7: vs. Marshall, 4:30 p.m., CW Network
  • Sat. Sept. 14: at Old Dominion, 6 p.m., ESPN+
  • Fri. Sept. 27: at Miami, 7:30 p.m., ESPN
  • Thur. Oct. 17: vs. Boston College, 7:30 p.m.

Some quick takeaways, ESPN put the Hokies into an early time slot for the season opener at Vanderbilt out of the SEC, then their home opener one week later against Marshall is a CW Network. The third game, at Old Dominion, will be broadcast on ESPN+, which is behind a paywall, at night is interesting. The two ACC primetime games against the Hurricanes and Eagles are no surprise with the 7:30 start.

The remaining game times will be set at a later date. Like last season and previous seasons, some times will not be set until a couple of weeks out from the game as always, TV and what channel the game will be on is a big decision in what time the game is played.

One game that comes to mind in that situation is a home game on Nov. 9 against Clemson as both teams could be looking at the game as a result that could decide one of the two spots in the ACC Championship game in December.
