We are just a few weeks away from ACC football coaches gathering in Charlotte, N.C. for the ACC Football Kickoff for the 2024 season from July 22-25. A couple of weeks ahead of the unofficial start of the 2024 season, one national college football writer ranked the ACC football coaches going into a new season and Virginia Tech coach Brent Pry is still ranked in the bottom half of his counterparts.

Chip Patterson of CBS Sports ranked the ACC football head coaches for the 2024 campaign and Pry was ranked 11th among his fellow coaches. This is up three spots for the former Penn State defensive coordinator who started last season ranked 14th a year ago at this time.

" It wasn't just that Virginia Tech went from three wins in Year 1 with Pry to seven in Year 2. It's also that Pry and his staff were able to retain most of the key pieces from last year's success, and there was plenty of obvious improvement in a campaign that saw the Hokies finish the year 5-2 over their last seven games with every win coming by at least 17 points."

Brent Pry remains in the bottom half of ACC coaches

As expected Clemson's Dabo Swinney holds down the top spot followed by Mike Norvell of Florida State and North Carolina State's Dave Doeren. Jeff brohm of Louisville and Dave Clawson of Wake Forest round out the Top 5.

This will be Year 3 in Blacksburg for Pry and I'm, not sure many people expected Virginia Tech to be in the spot they are entering the 2024 season as a dark horse in the ACC, but we are. A lot of retainment along with some key transfer portal additions have the Hokies as a team with a doable schedule that could find themselves in the thick of the conference race in November.

If the Hokies have the season that some are expecting, nine or 10 wins, and with the recent recruiting commitments they have, Pry could easily end up in the top half once the season ends.
